About

Artlas Studio is a collection of illustrated riddles. The drawings facilitate the answer, and the question at the end of the riddle indicates what type of hint is being provided. For example, “Can you find it?” will refer to an object that is hidden within the drawing. “What is it?” will indicate that the overall drawing itself is an abstract representation of the answer.

The purpose of Artlas Studio is to incentivize observers to use their faculty of reason when engaging with art. “What is the message of the piece?”, “what is it trying to convey?” - historically, the answer to these questions has been left to the discretion of the observer, subject to their interpretation. Here, we want observers to engage in an active game of discovery with the artist.

All riddles are written and illustrated by Alexandra Laval.

FAQ

  • Visit the Gallery to view all drawings.

Select the piece that draws you in.

Each drawing links to its own page, where the accompanying riddle can be explored.

  • Riddles are numbered to avoid revealing unintended hints through titles or ordering.

In the Gallery, the number appears when you hover over its drawing (not available on mobile).

On all platforms, the number is visible in the drawing’s URL.

  • Unfortunately, Squarespace does not support comment sections on artistic portfolios. If you have questions about a riddle, or would like to share your answer, please do not hesitate to contact me via email or social media. Every riddle has a direct link to the Instagram post for that drawing.

Eventually, the goal is to turn this into an interactive game that you can play directly from the website.

  • Eventually. At the moment, I am restricted by a work visa that does not permit income from side hustles. I will get a shop up and running once my immigration status changes :)
